Education and Legal Experience
I was trying cases before I was out of law school. As a senior at Loyola Law School in New Orleans in the Law Clinic, I tried a homicide case with Professor (now retired Judge) Calvin Johnson. Not long after that, I was sworn in as both a lawyer and as an Assistant District Attorney on September 30, 1987. After trying more than 100 cases as a prosecutor, I moved on to become an Assistant City Attorney for Okla Jones in Orleans Parish. When Mr. Jones became a federal judge, I entered private practice. I have tried just about every kind of criminal case there is as either a prosecutor or defense lawyer.
Not every case requires a trial. The vast majority of cases are resolved in advance of trial, but, in my opinion, it ordinarily takes a lawyer with years of experience and a willingness to try your case to get a fair resolution.
